Interactive Tunnel Installation, Crucial FX for Epson

The project

Epson gave Crucial FX full creative freedom to design the centrepiece of their exhibition stand at ISE 2019, Amsterdam, one of the world's largest professional AV and systems integration shows. The brief was simple: create a wow moment that showcased the true power and brightness of Epson projectors. Make people stop.

The installation

The Epson Vortex was an 8-metre long, 2.5-metre tall real-time interactive tunnel built on a fully bespoke structure with custom projection screen material. Powered by 8 stacks of double Epson Pro L1755 laser projectors, 250,000 lumens in total, the tunnel used 4 different types of tracking including laser scanners and depth cameras to create a fully custom interactive experience that responded to visitors in real time.

My role

Handed this as my first full lead project at Crucial FX, I owned the concept, design and all creative content from the ground up. I worked closely with the technical team throughout to ensure the vision was executable. The experience was built in Notch and powered by disguise (d3) servers.

The result

Awarded Best ISE Stand Demo by rAVe Publications and featured on the cover of rAVe Pubs February 2019. The response from visitors and industry press was overwhelming.
